What Types Of Shipments Do I Need A Gooseneck Trailer For?
by Scott P Gallagher
There are a lot of different types of trailers that your Salt Lake Courier Service can make available to their clients based on their needs. A gooseneck trailer is something that you might see sitting in their yard, or you may read about it on their website. This often leads people to wonder what kinds of shipments they might require such a trailer for.
Typically speaking, most gooseneck trailers are a flatdeck type of trailer. This means that they don't have walls like an enclosed trailer, (although some do). A Gooseneck trailer is so called because of the way it attaches into the bed of a truck. It has a long "neck" which sticks up and comes back down to attach to the truck.
Generally speaking, people need to use a gooseneck trailer when they need to carry things that are an odd size so they won't fit into an enclosed trailer. This might include things that are slightly wider than the walls on an enclosed trailer, or things which are taller than the ceiling height of most of those types of trailer. This could be any sort of cargo, but often you will see construction supplies, for example, being carried in large loads on gooseneck trailers.
One thing to realize about a Gooseneck trailer is that there are several different kinds. They all attach to trucks in slightly different ways, and there are different models which are made to hook up to different kinds of trucks. Often people decide to rent this kind of trailer for their own transportation needs or for use with their own trucks. If you are doing this, it is important that you recognize that you are going to need a specific type of trailer to fit with your truck, and it is important that you discuss the truck model you will be using to haul the trailer with the company that is renting you the trailer.
Most of the time you won't have to worry about whether or not you need a gooseneck trailer for a specific shipment. That is the sort of decision that is better left to your courier company. Just tell them what you have to ship and let them come up with the solution that is going to be most practical for your needs. Sometimes, this might end up in you needing a gooseneck trailer, but that is a decision better arrived at by the shipping experts.
