How to Prepare For the Montana CDL Test

by Kirk Vinchattle

There are a lot of important tests in your life, even after you've graduated High School and moved on to your potential career. It's how you prepare and handle those tests that will ultimately decide where you end up in life. So, if you're getting ready to take the Montana CDL test, start by understanding exactly what that test will include, how it will be administered and what you'll encounter when you get out on that road for the first time. Who Takes the Montana Test?I'm sure you've already taken a driving exam at least once in your life, but that does not mean you're fully ready for the CDL test given by Montana. To start with, let's make sure you're actually going to need to take the test. There are three different classes of license, pertaining to three different grades of commercial vehicles. These classes include:

Class A - This is for anyone driving a combination vehicle of more than 26,000 pounds GCWR (Gross Combination Weight Rating), and also towing more than 10,000 pounds. Class B - This is for anyone driving a single vehicle of more than 26,000 pounds or a combination vehicle of more than 26,000 pounds with less than 10,000 pounds in towed weight. Class C - This is for anyone driving a vehicle that weighs less than 26,000 pounds but that will be carrying hazardous materials or 16 or more passengers. If you fit any of these three classes, are at least 18 years of age, and have 20/40 vision and a 70 degree field of vision in both eyes, you can take the test for a CDL in Montana. Preparing for the Montana CDL TestNow that you know the test is right for you, it's time to determine what will be on the test and how to prepare for it properly. First up is the general knowledge test, which will consist of 40 or more questions, of which you must get 80% correct. After that, you can take the tests for each of the endorsements your CDL will need. Finally, you will be eligible to take the skills tests, of which there are three - an inspection test, basic skills test, and an on-road test. I've seen my fair share of new truck and bus drivers come and go and every one of them managed to learn everything they needed to pass that all important Montana CDL test. You're not alone. It may be hard, but there are resources out there and if you study for the test effectively, you won't just pass - it'll seem downright easy.
